Vol. 426 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ministerial Departmental Appointments.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

83 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Social Welfare the name of the programme manager appointed to his Department; the names of any special advisers appointed; the qualifications of those so appointed; and the remuneration involved in each case.

The partnership programme manager appointed to my Department is a civil servant, Ms. Catherine Hazlett. Before her appointment Ms. Hazlett held Principal Officer post as Head of Information and Research with the Pensions Board. She has extensive relevant experience and previously worked on policy development in my Department and in two other Government Departments. Her salary as partnership programme manager is £35,536 per annum.

My special adviser, Mr. Tony Cullen, is also a civil servant. He has considerable experience in dealing with social welfare matters and in the Department of Communications. His salary as special adviser is £26,192.
The Minister of State at my Department, Deputy Joan Burton, will appoint a special adviser in the near future but the details have not yet been finalised.

Ceist:

84 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of people appointed by him to his constituency office; the qualifications of those so appointed; and the remuneration involved in each case.

Four permanent civil servants have been assigned to my constituency office in accordance with normal practice. The staff involved are 1 Executive Officer and 3 Clerical Officers. They are paid at the appropriate points of the Civil Service salary scales for these grades.

My Dáil Secretary acts as my personal secretary. She is paid at the standard rate for people transferring from that post.
