Ceist:123 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment if he intends restoring the rights of the National Association of Tenants Organisations to negotiate with his Department on local authority rents.
Vol. 426 No. 5
123 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment if he intends restoring the rights of the National Association of Tenants Organisations to negotiate with his Department on local authority rents.
125 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for the Environment if he intends to restore negotiation rights to the National Association of Tenants Organisations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
126 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for the Environment if it is intended to restore negotiating rights on behalf of local authority tenants to the National Association of Tenant Organisations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
187 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment if he will have arrangements made to have consultations with the National Association of Tenants Organisations prior to determining local authority rents on a national basis.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 123, 125, 126 and 187 together.
The determination of the rents of their dwellings is an integral part of the housing management and maintenance function of local authorities and there are no proposals to change this arrangement which is consistent with the Government's aim of devolving as many functions as possible to local authorities. As a body representing local authority tenants, the association is free to make submissions and/or to have discussions on other matters which affect their members, nationally, with my Department and locally, with housing authorities.
