Vol. 426 No. 5

Written Answers. - Cork Housing List.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

137 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Environment his views on whether the number of eligible applicants at 1,259, as at 31 December 1992 is a tolerable level to have on Cork Corporation's house waiting list; if it is proposed to introduce a scheme to reduce this unacceptably high number; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 19 and 50 of today's date which sets out the level of Cork Corporation's 1993 local authority housing construction programme. This substantially increased programme, taken together with the various schemes in A Plan for Social Housing, will make a significant impact on reducing housing needs in Cork city and represents a reasonable response to those needs.
