Road grants are made available to local authorities for the provision of traffic signs on national roads. Local authorities may use the discretionary grants provided annually by my Department for such signs on non-national roads. The Road Traffic (Signs) (Amendment) Regulations, 1988, require local authorities to ensure that Irish versions of place names are shown on all informative traffic signs.
