226 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will give details of the legislation which implements EC Directive 91/628; and if he will supply Deputy Sargent with the specific rule relevant to this directive, submitted to the European Commission before 1st July, 1992.
Arrangements are in hand to transpose Directive 91/628/EEC on the protection of animals during transport into national law by way of Orders which I shall make under the European Communities Act, 1972. Pending the Orders, I have had administrative arrangements put in place for compliance with the requirements of the Directive.
Additional proposals are awaited from the EC Commission for more detailed applicatory rules on matters not fully covered by the Directive. It is also hoped to incorporate these rules in the Orders.
