Vol. 426 No. 5

Written Answers. - Ministerial Appointments.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

332 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Education the number of advisers appointed to her office, their suitability for the job, and their background and training; if these positions were advertised; the contracts on which they were appointed; the amounts paid to each individual; and the role each, or any particular group, will play in formulating or implementing Government policy.

I have appointed one special adviser to my office. Prior to his appointment, he was principal of a secondary school. He advises me on all aspects of educational policy and development. In line with long standing practice on the appointment of personal advisers, the position was not advertised.

For further information in the matter, I would direct the Deputy to Questions Nos. 518 and 213 which were taken on 10 and 16 February 1993, respectively.
