Vol. 426 No. 5

Written Answers. - Ministerial Appointments.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

54 Mr. Barry asked the Taoiseach the number of advisers appointed to his office, their suitability for the job, and their background and training; if these positions were advertised; the contracts on which they were appointed; the amounts paid to each individual; and the role each, or any particular group, will play in formulating or implementing Government policy.

I would refer the Deputy to my replies to Question No. 79 on 10 February 1993 and Question No. 49 on 16 February 1993.

Advisers are appointed in recognition of the special expertise which each has in particular policy areas. The appointments in question were not advertised which accords with the practice followed under all Governments in appointing advisers.
