56 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Taoiseach if he will allocate to a Minister responsibility to encourage development and improvement of living conditions on our offshore islands; and his views on the establishment of an islands representative body to represent all islanders at national and EC level.
Individual Ministers, who have responsibility within their own particular areas for the development and improvement of living conditions on our offshore islands, recognise the special problems and difficulties which our island communities face and take full cognisance of them in their actions and decisions on matters relating to our offshore islands.
In view of all the considerations involved, I have asked the Minister for the Marine, Deputy David Andrews, to co-ordinate the Government's efforts in this regard.
