Vol. 426 No. 5

Written Answers. - Policy Changes.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

80 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Finance the policy changes, if any, which underpin the increases or decreases in the subheads in Votes controlled by his Department; and if he will make a statement on whether increased or reduced services will be provided by his Department in 1993.

The position in relation to my Department and the offices under my aegis is as follows:

Department of Finance.

The increases/decreases in the subheads for my Department's Vote do not reflect any policy changes. The level of service provided in 1993 will be equivalent to that provided in 1992. My Department will continue to keep its services under review in order to ensure that these are provided efficiently and effectively.

Valuation and Ordnance Survey Office.

The 1993 provision shows no percentage variation vis-à-vis the 1992 Estimates. Accordingly, it is envisaged that there will be no significant change in the level of services provided in the current year.

State Laboratory.

Variations in subhead allocations do not reflect any policy changes. The level of service provided in 1993 will be the same as that provided in 1992.

Office of Public Works.

There are no policy changes underpinning the increases or decreases in the subheads in Vote 10. It is not anticipated that there will be any significant change in the level of services provided in 1993.

Civil Service Commission.
The decrease in the 1993 pay allocation for the Civil Service Commission results from the winding down of the recent Garda recruitment programme. The overall increase on the non-pay allocation reflects a lower demand for the Commission's services in 1992 involving fewer large scale written examinations.
Office of the Ombudsman.
Variations in subhead allocations do not reflect any policy changes. The level of service provided in 1993 will be the same as that provided in 1992.
Office of the Revenue Commissioners.
Any increases/decreases in subhead allocations do not reflect any policy changes for 1993. Services provided by Revenue in 1993 are expected to be comparable with those provided in 1992.
