123 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny): asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the grade of each civil servant appointed as a special adviser in his Department and the number of appointments made to fill the vacant grades concerned.

Minister for Enterprise and Employment (Mr. Quinn)

In my Department, a civil servant at higher executive officer grade has been appointed special adviser to the Minister of State with responsibility for Labour Affairs.

Prior to this appointment, the officer concerned served as special adviser to the Minister for Trade and Marketing at the former Department of Industry and Commerce. There has, therefore, been no vacancy to fill as a consequence to the present appointment.
