At a meeting on 4 February 1993, I advised the Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed (INOU) that I was not in a position to give any commitment regarding the provision of funding to the organisation in respect of its on-going running costs. I also pointed out that it still remained to be decided which Department is the most appropriate one through which to channel State funds for organisations dealing with the unemployed should the Government decide to make such funds available.
In the meantime, the INOU will continue to benefit from participation in the Social Employment Scheme, through which it has already received significant funding from the Exchequer.
