I have ensured that the views of workers will be fully taken into account and procedures have been put in place to facilitate their participation in the working of the Task Force. To further facilitate workers the Task Force will have a separate personality and presence in the company's plant.
I have written to the Minister for Tourism and Trade with a view to seeking a nomination from him of somebody who could represent tourism interests.
I did not wish to constrain the Task Force by giving rigid terms of reference. I do want the Task Force to focus on expanding employment opportunities by means of capitalising on the company's existing facilities together with the skills and infrastructure already available. Both the Task Force and I are keenly aware of the urgency and the necessity for results. The priority is to achieve replacement employment in Galway and to this end the resources of the State Agencies will be fully available.
