Vol. 427 No. 6

Written Answers. - New House Grants.

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

145 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of the regulations concerning the increased new house grant for first time purchasers/builders in general, and the regulations governing houses being built but not completed when the grant was introduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter clarifying the position of all concerned.

The increased grant of £3,000, announced in the budget, will be payable where a contract to purchase is made on or after 25 February, 1993; or where a contract to build is made on or after 25 February, 1993; or in any case, where the required contract or contracts for building services to the value of at least £15,000 is/are made on or after 25 February, 1993, or the poured concrete and concrete blocks used in the construction of the house are liable to VAT at 21 per cent.

The existing £2,000 grant will continue to be payable in other cases.
