Vol. 427 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ministerial Appointments.

John Browne

Ceist:

264 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Health the grade of each civil servant appointed as a special adviser in his Department and the number of appointments made to fill the vacant grades concerned.

In reply to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 182 and 183 of 16 February 1993 I have already detailed the number, salary and qualifications of the staff I proposed to appoint to my private office. The positions were not advertised. They require the agreement of the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste, if appropriate, the sanction of the Department of Finance and as they are not civil servants, excluding orders from the Civil Service Commissioners pursuant to section 5 of the Civil Service Commissioners Act, 1956. I am not in a position to give details of the contracts of employment as they have not yet been finalised. The role of my proposed Partnership Programme Manager will be to monitor the implementation of the Programme for a Partnership Government. The role of my proposed Special Adviser will be to advise me on a wide range of matters in relation to the health services.
