Vol. 427 No. 6

Written Answers. - Agreement with IMO.

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

285 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Health if he will give the details of the agreement reached between himself and the Irish Medical Organisation which resulted in Circular 1 of 1993 being issued to the chief executive officers of each of the regional health boards; if he will give the exact details agreed and in particular, details of the establishment of the General Practice Unit, the revised arrangements for the right of entry to the General Medical Services scheme, the new concession rate for general practitioners and payments in respect of EC visitors.

The details sought by the Deputy with regard to the agreement reached with the Irish Medical Organisation concerning arrangements for the provision of services under Section 58 of the Health Act, 1970, are contained in a number of circular letters which issued to the health boards earlier this year.

Given that the contents of these circulars are fairly detailed in nature, I will forward the information requested to the Deputy including the information on the rate of fees payable to general practitioners under the scheme. Discussions on the question of entry to the scheme and payment in respect of EC visitors are ongoing at present and no final arrangements have been put in place in respect of these matters.
