326 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education the amount of money being allocated in 1993 for the second level school in Ashbourne, County Meath.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

329 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education if a fire safety certificate has now been received by her Department in relation to Ashbourne second level school, County Meath; if the money was made available for expenditure in 1993; if the commitment of her predecessor to start the building in January 1993, given in March 1992, and confirmed in July 1992, will be honoured; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the builder's name was announced by her predecessor in November 1992, and that construction must commence on this 18 month contract in March 1993 in order to ensure that the building is ready to receive its first students in September 1994.

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 324, 325, 326 and 329 together.

A commitment was given by my predecessor that this project would commence in January 1993 provided unforeseen circumstances did not disrupt this schedule.

Architectural planning is not completed as circumstances, including the very recent acquisition of a fire certificate, have not allowed the planning to be finalised. The remaining details are currently being completed by the Department's consultants and the project is now scheduled to commence construction in May 1993.

The level of expenditure on the project, once commenced, will be dependent on the rate of progress of the building work.
