336 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education the position on the application from Corpus Christi national school, Drumcondra, Dublin 9, which has 412 pupils but no secretary or caretaker; and when these positions will be approved.
Under the terms of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress a phased programme of financial assistance by way of a supplementary grant for the provision of caretaking and clerical services in national schools has been introduced from 1 September 1992.
The initial phase of the programme targeted primary schools with enrolments of 500 pupils or over which have not had caretaking and/or clerical assistance.
Therefore this school does not satisfy the established criteria under this phase of the programme.
Consideration is now being given to phase two of the programme, but it is not possible at this stage to state when the school in question might be assisted under the programme.
