Vol. 427 No. 6

Written Answers. - Clonmel (Tipperary) Building.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

68 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Finance if he will recommend that the Office of Public Works provide funding for the restoration of the most historic building in Clonmel, County Tipperary, known as the Main Guard; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Main Guard is owned at present by Clonmel Corporation and it is not open to the Office of Public Works to provide funding for any restoration works. Restoration of the building is, however, included in the programme put forward by the Office of Public Works for the next phase of EC funding. In the event of such funding becoming available, it is intended that ownership of this national monument, and responsibility for its restoration, will be transferred from the Corporation to the Office of Public Works.
