Vol. 427 No. 7

Written Answers. - Nurses Pay Awards.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

44 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the South-Eastern Health Board has not paid back money due to nurses under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress; if, in view of the fact that virtually every other group within the public sector has been paid, he will issue a directive to the South-Eastern Health Board to have this money paid forthwith.

Payment of arrears following the implementation of special pay awards were made by the South-Eastern Health Board to nurses who are paid fortnightly on 19 February, 1993 and on 26 February, 1993 to nurses paid monthly.

In the South-Eastern Health Board, there is a multiplicity of grades and approximately 3,000 employees who qualified for arrears payments. Calculation of payments were complex and despite the best efforts of the South-Eastern Health Board, took longer than anticipated.
