Review of legislation is a continuous exercise which takes into account experience of implementation of the current legislation and the changing requirements. The Office of Public Works commenced a formal review of the Wildlife Act, 1976 in 1988.
Submissions were received from a number of organisations and individuals and I would welcome further submissions. The review will be made available to the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht who has responsibility for policy in this area as outlined by the Taoiseach to the Dáil.
Proposals will be submitted to Government shortly and it is hoped to publish an amending Bill later this year.
