Vol. 428 No. 2

Written Answers. - Wildlife Act Review.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

21 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of the progress to date of the review of the Wildlife Act, 1976; the procedure for accepting submissions; and when the review will be completed and the results made available.

Review of legislation is a continuous exercise which takes into account experience of implementation of the current legislation and the changing requirements. The Office of Public Works commenced a formal review of the Wildlife Act, 1976 in 1988.

Submissions were received from a number of organisations and individuals and I would welcome further submissions. The review will be made available to the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht who has responsibility for policy in this area as outlined by the Taoiseach to the Dáil.

Proposals will be submitted to Government shortly and it is hoped to publish an amending Bill later this year.
