Vol. 428 No. 2

Written Answers. - Freedom of Information Legislation.

John Bruton

Ceist:

73 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has to introduce freedom of information legislation.

The Programme for a Partnership Government indicates in its "Broadening Our Democracy" section that the partnership Government will consider the introduction of freedom of information legislation.

In pursuance of that commitment, I have arranged for the Ministers of State at my Department, who have specific responsibilities in the area of reform, to give consideration to the possible parameters of such legislation and to the detailed arrangements which would be required to make it effective. Until that consideration is completed and its results communicated to me, I will not be in a position to indicate my plans.
