Vol. 428 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Museum Attendant Appointments.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

113 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if, in relation to the panel for the posts of attendants in the National Museum, set up as a result of interviews held in 1992, he will outline whether the panel is still current; the number of vacancies which have arisen to date for the posts in question; the number of these posts which were filled by persons from the panel; the number of posts, if any, which were filled by persons other than those on the panel; if persons, other than those on the panel, were appointed; the way in which these persons were recruited; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The panel in question was established by the Department of the Taoiseach in 1992, to provide qualified candidates to fill vacancies in a number of unestablished positions.

Three vacancies for science and art attendants at the National Museum were filled by persons from the panel. A vacancy for services attendant in the National Museum was also filled from the panel.
With the establishment of the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht, responsibility for future appointments to similar posts in the National Museum now rests with my Department. The existing panel will remain in force for the time being.
