Vol. 428 No. 5

Written Answers. - Small Print Clauses in Contracts.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

120 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the steps, if any, he proposes to take in order to give effect to the recent decisions made by the Consumer Affairs Ministers in Brussels to give consumers greater protection from unclear and unfamiliar small print clauses in contracts.

Agreement in principle has been reached on the draft proposal for a Council Directive on Unfair Terms in consumer Contracts.

When the draft is finally agreed by the Council — probably in April — I will take all the steps necessary for its transmission into Irish law.
