175 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will give details of the present position regarding the case presented to the EC Commission to provide substantial aid towards the cost of upgrading on-farm milk production facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
A case for EC aid towards the on-farm investment necessitated by Directive 92/46/EEC was submitted to the Commission last November. Since then, Ireland has been allocated £6 million towards the improvement of milk quality in the context of the Directive. It is intended also to include aid towards on-farm investment necessitated by Directive 92/46/EEC in the plan currently being drawn up for the use of the next phase of the Structural Funds.
