Vol. 428 No. 5

Written Answers. - Cardiac Ambulances.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

210 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Health the number of cardiac ambulances in use in the Mid-Western Health Board area.

The provision of ambulance services in the Mid-Western Health Board area is a matter for the Health Board in the first instance.

I understand from the Mid-Western Health Board that there are no dedicated cardiac ambulances in service in the region. However, cardiac cases are dealt with by the emergency ambulance service.
The Deputy will be aware that a review of ambulance services is currently being undertaken by my Department, together with the Health Boards. The areas being considered by this review include the question of the most appropriate response to cardiac calls. It is intended that the recommendations of the Review Group in relation to the provision of services for cardiac patients will be taken into account by the Health Boards when considering any future developments in this area.
