Vol. 428 No. 5

Written Answers. - Decentralisation of Government Department.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

63 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Finance his plans, if any, for the decentralisation of a Government Department to Clonmel, County Tipperary; when such decentralisation might take place; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As the Deputy may be aware, the extended programme of decentralisation involves the transfer of parts of 11 Government Departments to nine provincial centres.

I regret very much that Clonmel was not amongst the centres chosen from the very many locations considered by the Government.

While the decentralisation programme is well underway it will take some time to complete and a further extension of the programme is unlikely pending completion and review of the present programme.
