Vol. 428 No. 5

Written Answers. - Amount of PRSI Paid on Farm Income.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

89 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Social Welfare the amount of PRSI paid on farm income for each tax year 1987 to 1992 inclusive.

This Department does not compile PRSI information on the basis of type of income and is, therefore, not in a position to say, definitively, how much PRSI is paid on farm income.

However, based on information provided by the Revenue Commissioners, who collect the vast bulk of PRSI on behalf of the Department of Social Welfare, the following estimates of PRSI in respect of farm income, have been compiled: 1988, £2.2 millions; 1989, £5.8 millions; 1990, £6.3 millions; 1991, £6.3 millions; 1992, £7.7 millions.

The information is not available by tax year. PRSI for the self-employed only came into operation in 1988, hence 1987 is not shown. The figures do not include amounts in respect of health contributions or the employment and training levy.
