Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Frank Crowley

Ceist:

129 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of lottery funding made available for 1993; and the percentage of expenditure which will be available for projects in rural areas.

Provision has been made in my Department's Estimates for 1993, from the national lottery surplus, in respect of the following services: amenities/ recreational facilities grants scheme; £1.671 million; local authority library service, £1.850 million; provision and renovation of swimming pools; £1.183 million; provision of communal facilities in voluntary housing projects, £0.500 million.

As indicated in reply to Question No. 167 of 11 March 1993, the provision for the amenities/recreational facilities grants scheme is to enable payments to be made on foot of grants which were allocated in 1990 and 1991. There is no provision for new allocations in the current year. A breakdown of expenditure on the lines requested is not available, nor would this be meaningful in relation to the facilities and services in question; these are generally located in centres of population, which in most instances, also serve the needs of the surrounding rural areas.
