Vol. 431 No. 6
15 Mr. Harte asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform if the working group on the implementation of the report of the Second Commission on the Status of Women has yet met; and the likely reporting time.
18 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform if it is intended that the Second Commission on the Status of Women should remain in operation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
114 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform if the working group on the implementation of the report of the Second Commission on the Status of Women has yet met; and the likely reporting time.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 15, 18 and 114 together.
The Second Commission on the Status of Women presented its final report to Government on 11 February 1993. Having completed its assigned task it then ceased to exist, as is the nature of such Government commissions.
The next stage is action on the recommendations in the commission's report. I have already asked all Government Ministers to bring forward proposals drawn from the commission's report so that a programme of implementation can be established. A monitoring committee will oversee implementation of this programme. Work is well in hands on this approach and my intention is that the programme will be in place and the monitoring committee operational by autumn of this year.
