Vol. 431 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Work-Sharing.

Batt O'Keeffe

Ceist:

26 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the number of persons within his Department who are currently operating on a work-sharing basis; and if he intends to encourage a higher percentage of his staff to become involved in work-sharing projects.

There are two officers of my Department working on a job-sharing basis.

I am positively disposed towards facilitating job-sharing requests but it must be pointed out that participation in the job-sharing scheme is entirely voluntary and is a matter of personal choice, depending on circumstances.
The Deputy can be assured that any requests from officers of my Department for job-sharing will be favourably considered. Where it is not possible to facilitate a job-sharing arrangement in my Department, details of the request can be brought to the attention of the Department of Finance so that the possibility of facilitating the request elsewhere in the Civil Service can be explored.
