Arising from the Programme for a Partnership Government, I am committed to an examination of "the extension of the principle of maternity leave to cover paternity leave on the basis of a sharing of paternal responsibility". The examination will have regard to recommendations in this area made in the report to Government by the Second Commission on the Status of Women.
