Vol. 431 No. 6

Written Answers. - Combat Poverty Agency.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

47 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason the maximum number of members of the Combat Poverty Agency has been increased from 12 to 16.

The power, under section 7 of the Combat Poverty Agency Act, 1986, to appoint members of the board of the agency, has been delegated to the Minister of State at my Department who has made a regulation to increase the maximum number of board members from 12 to 16. This is to allow for the appointment of additional members, including a staff representative.

The Minister for State made four appointments to the board on 26 May 1993 as follows: Damien Hannon, Research Professor, ESRI; Fionnuala Richardson, Director, The People's College; Trutz Haase, a member of the Agency's staff nominated by the staff, and Deirdre Frawley, Education Officer with Limerick vocational education committee.
