Vol. 431 No. 6

Written Answers. - Coroner's Court Staffing.

Mary Flaherty

Ceist:

70 Miss. Flaherty asked the Minister for Justice if, in relation to two cases (details supplied), she has any plans to increase staffing in the Coroner's Court; and if she will make a statement on the delays being experienced by families awaiting inquests on relatives.

The position is that the staffing of the Coroner's Court, Store Street, Dublin 1 is a matter for Dublin Corporation and I have no function in the matter. I have no function in setting arrangements for inquests in the cases mentioned by the Deputy — this is a matter for the coroner.

I have, however, made inquiries of the coroner's office and I have been informed that the inquest into the death of the first person referred to by the Deputy will be held on 11 June 1993.

Arrangements for the holding of the inquest into the death of the second person referred has been deferred pending the outcome of criminal investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death.
