Vol. 431 No. 6

Written Answers. - Probation Service Supervisors.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

69 Ms. Shortall asked the Minister for Justice if she intends to make the present three day week permanent part-time posts of supervisors in the community service section of the probation service into full time jobs in view of the tendency towards community service orders; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Part-time sessional supervisors are engaged as required to assist probation and welfare service personnel in ensuring that offenders undertake community service work efficiently and effectively in the community. These supervisors are engaged for particular and varying kinds of projects as required on a part-time basis. Their status allows the probabtion and welfare service the flexibility necessary to undertake the widest possible range of work in the community service order scheme.
