Vol. 432 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Kildare School.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

117 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education when her attention was first drawn to the need for extra accommodation and facilities at Hewetson School, Clane, County Kildare; when it became obvious to her Department that the needs of the school were urgent and pressing; if her attention has further been drawn to the overcrowded conditions which currently exist there; and if she will make a statement on the matter in view of the current and future requirements of the school.

I have been aware since taking office of the need for extra accommodation at Hewestown national school. It was not possible to include the project in the national school capital programme for 1993 because of other commitments and priorities.

An application has recently been received for some improvement works at the school. These are at present under consideration in my Department and a decision will be conveyed to the school authorities in due course.
