Written Answers. - School Transport Grant.

Ceist:

128 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the offer by her Department of a transport grant of £520 per annum in respect of transport to Scoil Mochua, Clondalkin, County Dublin, for a person (details supplied) in County Kildare, her attention has been drawn to the fact that actual transport costs in this case amount to £2,760 per annum; if she will devise any other means where by the transport can be continued or this grant increased; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I indicated to the House on 17 June, 1993 the position in relation to this particular case.

The grant offered is the maximum grant allowable having regard to the distance the boy resides from the school.

I will be giving consideration to what additional measures are appropriate and feasible in the light of the Special Education Review Committee, which will be reporting to me shortly in respect of cases of this nature.
