Proinsias De Rossa

Ceist:

14 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if, in order to stimulate trade between Northern Ireland and the Republic, he has given any consideration to the establishment of an economic corridor between Dublin and Belfast as proposed by IBEC and the Confederation of British Industry in Northern Ireland; if he has raised this proposal with the British authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that IBEC and CBI Northern Ireland have recently appointed consultants to carry out a feasibility study on a Belfast/Dublin economic corridor. The feasibility study is not due to be completed until the end of February 1994.

I will be happy to examine the study once it is completed and to give active consideration to any policy recommendations in so far as they might relate to my Department.
