Vol. 433 No. 2

Written Answers. - Maastricht Treaty Compliance.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

64 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the initiatives, if any, he will be taking, legislative or otherwise, to comply with the terms of the Maastricht Treaty; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy will be aware that the Maastricht Treaty has not yet come into force.

The Treaty does not directly require the taking of any legislative or other initiative relating to matters within my Department's area of responsibility.

Such initiatives may become necessary in the future as and when specific measures are taken by the Community in the new or expanded areas of competence contained in the Treaty.
