77 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Defence if there are any measures required to be taken in his remit of responsibility to comply with the terms of the Single Market; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 75, 76 and 77 together.

An EC package of funding was approved for member states for the purposes of fishery surveillance in November 1989. In accordance with the EC approved programme a contract, which was placed in April 1991, included provision for the purchase of an existing CASA CN235 aircraft and two new CASA CN235 maritime patrol aircraft for the purpose of aerial surveillance of fisheries resources. The new aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 1994. Expenditure incurred under the contract is eligible for the maximum 50 per cent refund from the EC.
The Department has no responsibility for legislation or other measures in the context of the Single European Market or the Maastricht Treaty.
