Vol. 433 No. 3

Written Answers. - Third-Level Student Support Schemes.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

77 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Education if she will approve grant aid for persons (details supplied) in County Waterford who have been accepted by third level institutions in the United Kingdom.

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 90 of 26 May 1993 which dealt with financial assistance for Irish student studying in the UK. Grants and scholorships awarded under my Department's student support system are tenable only in approved institutions in Ireland.

The relevant third-level student support schemes are currently under review in my Department. However, it is not envisaged that there will be any changes in respect of Irish students studying abroad, including the persons in question, in the 1993 schemes which will be available shortly.
