Ceist:207 Mr. Cox asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date position regarding an application for recognition by a Gaelscoil (details supplied) in County Cork.
Written Answers. - Recognition of Gaelscoil.
It is a condition for the recognition of a primary school as a Gaelscoil that the medium of instruction throughout the school should be through Irish. This condition had not been fully met in the school referred to by the Deputy when the question of recognition was under examination in my Department last May. Accordingly, the application for recognition as a Gaelscoil was rejected.
The school authorities were informed of the decision and that the application would be re-considered when Irish was the medium of instruction throughout the school.
