Vol. 435 No. 1

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Areas Scheme.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

45 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a final report from the appeals committee set up to examine and make recommendations on applications for inclusion in the disadvantaged areas scheme on appeal will be made available.

Following a detailed analysis of appeals received the Disadvantaged Areas Appeals Panel have presented to me its recommendations on the areas to be included in the Disadvantaged Areas. Shortly, the Government will be asked to make proposals based on the Panel's recommendations for submission to the EC Commission. If the Commission accepts the Government's submission, it will make a detailed proposals to the Council which must consult the European Parliament before making the final decision. This procedure is expected to take at least six months at the end of which a list of the new townlands to be included in the disadvantaged areas will be published by the Commission.
