Vol. 435 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions Written Answers. - Kilbarrack (Dublin) DART Station.

Thomas P. Broughan

Ceist:

38 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will ensure that the necessary funding is provided in the 1994 Estimates for the complete refurbishment of Kilbarrack DART Station in accordance with the design submitted to his Department recently by the planners of Dublin Corporation.

Seán Kenny

Ceist:

43 Mr. S. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received proposals from Dublin Corporation for the provision of a new pedestrian overbridge at Kilbarrack Dart Station; if he will provide the necessary funding in the 1994 Estimates to allow the project to start; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 38 and 43 together.

On 15 October last Dublin Corporation submitted an application to my Department for funding for the construction of a pedestrian bridge over the railway line at Kilbarrack, linking Briarfield Road and Grove Park Crescent, as part of a series of measures to improve the environs of the DART startion. The estimated cost of the bridge and associated works is £425,500. As the bridge is intended to facilitate pedestrian movements between two local urban roads, it is a matter for the corporation to finance its construction from its own resources, supplemented by the discretionary block grant which is £2.654 million this year.

The proposed measures at Kilbarrack include a housing precinct improvement programme for Swansnest Court. In this regard I refer to the reply to Question No. 206 on 6 October 1993. The corporation has since been requested to prioritise its outstanding applications under the remedial works scheme, including its application for Swansnest Court, and the question of providing funding will be determined in the light of the response.

Improvements to the DART station itself would not fall to be financed from my Department's funds.
