Ceisteanna — Questions Written Answers. - Dublin Airport Noise Levels.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

82 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the estimated increase in noise levels in the areas around Dublin Airport caused by the anticipated growth in air traffic following the ending of the compulsory stop-over at Shannon.

It is anticipated that the number of aircraft flights direct from Dublin Airport to the US will be a relatively small proportion of the aircraft using Dublin airport. In general the long range aircraft that will be involved in US flights from Dublin meet the stringent noise abatement requirements set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation. Furthermore most of the flights involved will take off towards the west (thus avoiding populous urban areas). In the foregoing circumstances there is unlikely to be any appreciable or substained increase in noise levels as a result of direct Dublin/US flights.
