Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Donal Carey

Ceist:

184 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made with the manager of the Clare school bus scheme that the six qualifying children attending O'Callaghans Mills national school, County Clare, will be collected at The Lodge, Clogher instead of Derrymore Cross; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have had the issue raised by the Deputy examined by Bus Éireann who operate the school transport scheme on my behalf. I understand that none of the six children in question lives more than 1.5 miles from the present collection point. As this level of service is considered reasonable in the general context of school transport arrangements throughout the country, the extension requested would not be justified.

My Department has also been assured by Bus Éireann that the present collection point is satisfactory as far as its suitability as a pick-up and set-down point is concerned.
