Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Dublin Road Improvement.

Mary Harney

Ceist:

113 Miss Harney asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the commencement of work on the Tallaght Hospital, he will take into account the need to have an adequate road infrastructure in the area of the hospital, in particular, the building of Cookstown Distributor Road, to alleviate the appalling traffic conditions generated by this development; if he will make funds available for the commencement of work on this road; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The cost of constructing or improving non-national roads, such as the proposed Cookstown distributor road, falls to be financed by the local authority concerned from its own resources supplemented by the discretionary grants provided annually by my Department. The grant allocated to Dublin County Council this year amounts to £1.28 million. Determination of priorities in the expenditure of such grants is entirely a matter for the county council.
