141 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment the level of finance which will be made available for county roads to Louth County Council under the National Development Plan, 1994-1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Under the National Development Plan, it is proposed that grants amounting to £475 million will be provided for the improvement of non-national roads in the period 1994-1999. As indicated in the plan, a new scheme of specific grants to local authorities will be introduced for EC co-financed improvement projects. The level of funding for each individual authority will be determined annually and will depend, inter alia, on the suitability and relative priority of schemes put forward by the authority.
