Vol. 436 No. 4

Written Answers. - Housing Policy.

Michael McDowell

Ceist:

23 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for the Environment the local authorities who have not yet complied with the Housing Act, 1992 requirement to draw up, within a year, written policies setting our the way in which they intend to counteract segregation in housing and avoid creating large areas of single class housing estates; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Local authorities are required by section 28 of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1992 to draw up and adopt written statements of their policy to counteract, in relation to their housing building programme, undue segregation in housing between people of different social backgrounds. Authorities are not, however, required to obtain my approval to their statements or to submit them to my Department. Accordingly, the information requested is not available in my Department.
