Vol. 436 No. 4

Written Answers. - Community Initiative ENVIREG.

John Bruton

Ceist:

33 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment the aid received in Ireland under the Community Initiative ENVIREG, both in terms of the results achieved and the amounts of money received; if Ireland has received aid under this Initiative; and if not, the reason therefor.

To date, Ireland has received assistance totalling £15.2 million under the Community Initiative ENVIREG. The balance of ENVIREG expenditure will be incurred, and remaining EU assistance of £9.1 million fully drawn down, between now and end-1994.

Progress in Ireland under the ENVIREG Initiative includes 3 sewerage schemes (Strandhill, Castlebridge and Swords) already completed, and 8 further coastal sewage treatment schemes under construction or at tender stage. A national sewage sludge strategy was undertaken as part of the technical assistance elemet of the ENVIREG Programme and will be completed very shortly.
