32 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for the Environment if he will increase the grants for group water schemes as the costs have increased and supplementary grants are needed in almost every application; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The National Development Plan confirms that group schemes will continue as an integral element of the water and sanitary services programme. Detailed arrangements for small water and sanitary services schemes generally, including group schemes, are being reviewed in the context of the post-1993 Operational Programme for Environmental Services which is now in preparation.
While supplementary grants are commonly required in connection with group schemes, some 70 per cent of schemes approved in 1993 are being undertaken without supplementary grants.
